So I,ve just started out on my bike trip to meet the more easternly babblers. I'll have to keep off the #1 until I hit Abbotsford 'cause the cops take exeption to bikes on the freeway. I'm kinda out of shape and DrConway has been lazing on the computer moniter for a bit too long (Truth be told he's weighing down my backpack). Anyhoo, the weather is a bit wet so I'm taking my time, We should hit Hope in a coulple of days - I'll post again when we find a cafe.
-wish you were here, but I'll be there soon,

You are so wicked, sherpafish. Be careful, babbler mush is unpleasant to say the least.

Babbler mush?! Unpleasant?! okay, maybe I'm the only one that spotted that double-entendre, I should really get my mind out of the gutter...

Anyway, do have a safe trip, sherpa, and can't wait to see both of you!

And DrConway: need not worry, we all know those must be damned lies that sherpa's spreading

I'm not THAT heavy, damnit. I just sleep on the monitor because it's, er, warm.

When you stop for a break, sherpafish, remind me to get in a good run or two with a ball of yarn.

Well, if so, *I* certainly wonder where he is then, since I'm supposed to be with him.

Of course I'm serious. I'm always seroius.

You see The Doc is with me in pseudo-felinoid form only, his humanoid form is back in Van going to school, babbling, chewing quantum-physics equations for breakfast, ect. Just his nap-loving puddy cat self has joined me for the journey east. (And I spread no rumours, though Doc's human form may be positivly svelt, his feline disposition is truly, well, fat'n'sassy!)

So that's all cleared up then. Weather has been clear for the most part, though one day in Hope was rather wet - spent most of it at the all you can eat chinese/jappanese buffet on the main drag. My body is getting used to burning massive amounts of calories again, there was an unpleasant (Yes, Dawna, unpleasant) scene at the Tim Horton's in Abbotsford -involving boston cream donuts and a triple-triple- that I won't relate at this time.

It's still a bit cold at night, but my feline friend keeps my feet warm and I've a good sleeping bag strapped to the rack of Orco. Yes, Orco is my bike.

The hills up the Coquihalla are tough! Still a lot of snow on the road side. Makes for some hairy riding when big trucks go past. Hit the summit (1740m!) in the afternoon yesterday and cruised on down the other side into Merrit by nightfall. COLD HANDS! Where is Merrit you ask? Well as The local wags would say "Merrit is beyond Hope!" Ha.

Dinner of french toast at the Red Top Truck Stop was great, as always, and I found a nice spot in City Park to set up the Bivy. There's a nice little Coffee/Internet gig next to the Dairy Queen from which I write you now.

Going to do some shopping in the morning then its back onto those hills towards Kamloops. Will write soon. -sherpa

PS. Any other babblers want us to swing by on our way? Just let me know where you are.

Yes, but you need to clip your toenails. Thankfully my fur is sufficiently fluffy to keep *me* warm at nights, although I must say that the cool air rushing past me (Well, mostly my nose) is quite bracing - as sherpafish pedals for all he's worth.

Thankfully my culinary experiences have all been pleasant, seeing as the Meow Mix and table scraps have done me well. Though I think the cook looked at me funny when you insisted on that order of waffles for me at the truck stop, sherpafish...

Holy S**t! You're actually biking across the country?!?!?!?! Well, when you get to Thunder Bay, be sure to log back on and ask for more specific directions still a little stunned...

Good grief, biking across the Rockies must be killer! But oh, the views!

When you get to my neck of the woods, the hills even out to, well, nothing.... But there is that prairie wind to contend with...

Sherp, Doc... overjoyed to see you're wending your way our way. Hope you've got studded tires on that bike, sherpafish -- still snow and ice on those Rockies! For that matter, the Coke must have been a caution.

Well, gents, when you get to our place, we have both Fancy Feast and waffles. Email us when you get to Banff, won't you?

Gee, I'd invite you guys here to Windsor, but the drivers here are too unsafe. They wear out their horns before their directional indicators. However, if you happen to want to visit, my door is open.

Snow indeed. Though not so fresh where I am, it's still hanging around.

Rode more directly east than was planned. Down into the Okagnagan Valley. The lake sits at 200m and the snow is at about 400m, so I'm laying low for awhile. The lake is perfectly undisturbed by the summer crowd of motor boats and is a little bit wind-whipped at the momment. Beautiful, still too cold to be fun, though.

A friend's family has a cabin just above WestBank and just below Vernon- right near the Native Reserve- This is where I have been sleeping. There is 'lectricity, but no heat, insulation or computer. Sorry I haven't posted in a while.

Rockies are looking bad. The season is late and the rocks are still snow bound. Roger's Pass is not bikable yet. I'm not sure about the more southern Crow's Nest Pass, but that would include climbing the Kootneys as well. How's the weather on the other side, 'lance?

Just been kickin' back lately with books and mugs of tea. Quite nice realy. Haven't decided yet if I should turn back and try later in the season. This wasn't so hard the last time, but I tackled the Rockies last then. But then, I didn't have a pseudo-felinoid in my backpack either!

Don't worry Doc, there will be other warm moniters to nap on. We gotta get going. (Thinking on that Bio BTW)

My brother says it's snowing like blazes up in Quesnel, so you may want to try again later in the year, or come back and pitch in for sturdy car

Apparently there was some guy named Chris Robertson who bicycled from Point Pelee to some place in the Yukon to draw attention to his cause of promoting Canadian national unity. He wrote a book on it. I was fundraising with my cadet corps yesterday (would you like to support Army Cadets? ) and he walked up to myself and a fellow cadet, donated generously, and then said that he was so impressed with our service to our country taht he would give us something else. He came back from his car with two copies of his book, one for each of us, and drove off, leaving us to look at the back cover and realize taht that guy looked just like the author.
I skimmed the book, and it has some interesting ideas on how to get across tough terrain, and what sort of problems you might encounter. Seeif you can't find a copy.

Isn't Point Pelee in Ontario, though? Was this to fight Western Alienation, or was it more around 1995?

This was around 1995. The author says in the book that he was inspired by the Quebec Referendum do to something to promote national unity.

I haven't read the book yet; he only gave it to me yesterday.
He started on March 1 1997 and finished January 8, 1998. He went through Point Pelee, Leamington, London, Hamilton, Toronto, Barrie, Sudbury, the Soo, Thunder Bay, Kenoraenora, Winnipeg, Yorkton, Saskatoon, Lloydminister, Edmonton, Grand Prairie, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Whitehorse, Dawson City, Fort McPherson, Inuvik, and ending up in Tuktoyaktuk.

Yes, yes, 'The Ditch' or 'DC' as it's refered to by its inhabitants.

**A local joke**
"Where is Dawson's Creek?"
"Just up the road from Pouce Coupe"

I guess you gotta be a local.

Laedifox, thanks for asking.
I'm back home in Vancouver, the wild ride was a bust.
I want to send out thanks to all the babblers that sent visiting invitations to my sherpen self. Doc Conway and I have been talking about driving his newly purchased babblemobile (crown vic) to Ontario this summer so I might be heading East again later in the season.

Hey, meades, you little rotter, what are you smirking at!
