I know that Costco staff are treated pretty well and paid okay. However, the staff that hand out the samples aren’t directly Costco employees. They are hired by a company that Costco contacts. Lately I’ve heard some stories about how these staff, mostly women and many people of colour, are treated. It’s not great and they aren’t paid very wellI recently heard of a store in BC where all of the sampling employees were accidentally overpaid for one pay period. Shortly after this, they received a raise. Once their employer realized the mistake and deducted the overpayment from a subsequent cheque, they did so at the new, higher rate. This means that the employees had too much money deducted. Their employer is aware of this problem but has refused to correct it despite repeated requests by the employees. I’m asking for anyone who shops at Costco, or doesn’t for that matter, to email Costco asking them to stop contacting these work out and to hire these employees directly. Failing that, Costco should make sure these people are being treated fairly and paid a living wage. Thanks
