Cuba-trained U.S. doctors graduate

quote:
Eight US students have graduated from a Cuban medical school after completing a six-year study programme funded by the country's communist government.

The eight came to Cuba as part of a deal agreed between President Fidel Castro and members of Washington's Congressional Black Caucus.

Under the plan, Cuba offers students from deprived backgrounds full scholarships, including accommodation.

They are meant to return to the US to offer low-cost healthcare. [...]

The government has sent tens of thousands of Cuban doctors abroad to help some of the world's poorest communities.

It also trains large numbers of foreign doctors on the island.

According to the official newspaper, Granma, there are currently more than 5,000 medical students from 25 countries studying in Cuba.

Ottawa should send trade some of our millions of barrels of valuable fossil fuels ear-marked for the U.S., instead to Cuba in exchange for a few doctors. Because our upside-down socialist system for the rich isn't producing enough doctors and skilled workers in general in this Northern Puerto Rico.

Maybe they should, but on the other hand, wouldn't that require a government with some actual balls? That animal is in short supply here in good ol' NPR.

Our oil isn't Ottawa's to trade away. If they want to trade some of Ontario's manufacturing capacity, or export some of the bloated public service, fine.

Sure it's ours. All it would take is one democratically-elected leader with heart and a spine. Ottawa could abrrogate NAFTA, and six months later we'd be free.

And it looks like Canadians are already highly suggestible to the idea. A federal campaign to nationalise the oil and gas shouldn't cost nearly as much as promoting a gun registry. Alberta's autocratic governments would have to find some other valuable natural resource to prop up them up.
