I mean any walk in a shopping mall in Amerikkka will make one wonder how a nation that spends so much time on beefy soldiers that kill men and women of color on a daily basis have no concern for the the amounts of food that they eat?
Or is it the rapacious Amerikkan Kapitalist that sees his embodiment in the obese redneck that is the average Amerikkan?
Kill and eat!
That's what Amerikkans do well!
Viva Rosa Luxembourg!

wow ! a topic i can sink my teeth into.

i'm not sure i agree with the premise. are Americans fatter ?

i only know from watching friends & family members who are overweight.

in both cases, the people use food as a drug.

I would not be surprised if it is as much sedentary lifestyle as it is food.

Television and the computer keep people sitting for long periods. People just don't go for evening walks anymore. Few people play sports.

Other than Marketing and Stress and sedentary lifestyle, (size of butt expansion often directly related to Gig growth on computers) I thought I would leave you this link and you can self educate on everything you ever needed to know about obesity around the world

It starts young! De-emphasis of physical education programs in elementary schools might have something to do with it. Along with children picking up their parent's bad habits when it comes to nutrition, keeping the cycle going.

The gentleman is apparently a teacher from California, or as he would spell it Kalifornia according to his profile.

As to why he would ask Canadians about American obesity is fascinating or perhaps odd?

Come to think of it. I used to play soccer, football, baseball... whatever, just about every day after school with the neighbour kids. None of my kids are overweight, but I really should make an effort to get them out.

I could use a little football too.

Hey Michelle! I'm up to 12 lbs lost now!

Obesity is a serious problem in Canada as well. Its not just Americans who are gaining weight steadily, we Canadians as a group are getting bigger. I heard a women in a retail store telling me how they now have to size down their clothes. So if you were a size 6 originally, you are now a size 4. Its all about delusion. Oh, and they are also making half sizes.

I'm with Stargazer. There have been reports where Canadians are said to be more obese than Americans. Our diets and fitness levels are no better.
In the end, a person has to burn more calories than they consume. Who's problem is that?

You must be thinking of North American poor vs worldwide poor.

People who are chronically hungry are quite different than someone who is simply eating non-nutritional food.

I think the idea is that poor people in North America don't have access to affordable quality food. I agree. Neither do most middle class people.

It's possible to be malnourished and obese. Figure that one out.

But, really, in the end, a person has to burn more calories than he\she takes in to lose weight, or keep from gaining weight. There really is no other "diet" that will work.

I believe that, if you engage in a long-term project of burning more calories than you consume, then you will starve to death. Short-term, it's the only way to lose weight.

Yup, sounds to me like someone from that crowd too. The opening post is offensive and rude, and I'm closing this.

Also, nijo is yet another reincarnation of one of those dorks.
