I hate to bring the subject up again, because of all the hype over the baring of a breast, but I must point out that I AM offended because it seemed to be a simulated act of date rape. I mean, he practically tore off her shirt! I don't care if it was staged or not- is anyone else offended in this way?

It seemed to me more bodice ripper and less date rape.

You'd think the human breast was a deadly weapon rather than a body part that nourishes the bodies and minds of those who later feel threatened by it.

Most people didn't even see anything until it was played over and over and over and over again to audiences of all ages, btw.

Er, did you see the metal spikes all over it? It did kind of look like a prop from a ninja B-movie.

When I saw the halftime show, I didn't even notice. My dad said something to the effect of "Did he just... what was that?". But then the lights went out, the show ended and that was that. I didn't actually catch wind of the whole contreversy thing until the next day. By then, Moral Majority blood was already at a high boil...

I agree with Thrantos. I think it gave the message that it's ok (and kinda cool) to tear off a girl's shirt -- even if she doesn't want you to.

I wonder how many young girls have gotten their shirts "torn off" by young boys in recent weeks....

Where did the "OK" part come in? If anything, I would think it would send the message that tearing off the velcro part of someone's disco-bondage suit can only result in intense scrutiny of you from all corners of society. This incident hasn't been described as anything but wrong for the past 2 weeks.

Most young girls don't have snap-off panels for the purpose, like Janet Jackson had.

Meowful, good point. It's weird b/c in the U.S. we have this scandal breaking out in Univ. of Colorado football team where allegations of women being raped by players, and strippers at recruiting parties. The latest, was a female player alleged she was raped by another player. It hurts just to read this stuff, not the least of which is the coach's comments.

All this I guess is supposed to be okay. It's okay for football players to act like this. It's almost expected, it seems sometimes for them to be 'real' men.

I made the comment b/c although I agree that there is a time for nudity or partial nudity and it can be exploitative, a breast itself is not obscene. It reminds me of when women push for breastfeeding facilities or discreetly in public, and they are treated as deviants out to seduce men into bad behavior.

Didn't see it happen, but can't say that I would have been offended. For many people (men and women alike), tearing off clothes is a matter of 'passion of the moment' in a consensual intimate encounter.

In any event, I am really surprised by the degree of attention this received. Men go shirtless all the time, and does anyone care? Nope. Why so much commotion over a woman's breast?

I think I would have been more offended if Janet Jackson had made the attempt to look horrified. As it was, she looked satisfied to be free from a leather shirt which constrained her mammoth silicone sacs.

Perhaps though, she'd had a round of Botox the week before and *couldn't* look horrified.

Those pictures and videos about Mardi Gras abuses work my nerves far more.

I did'nt see it but from what I can gather I'm of the opinion that it was staged, and if we just ignored the whole affair it would have just gone away.

I seriously doubt there are many feeble minded people who would take the janet jackson tit episode as a green light to try the same thing with someone else. Thats like saying rock n roll will make you commit suicide!
