If anyone knows of a site in a greek paper or similar where this can be posted it may save some lives.I lived in Aussie for several years and we were given this advice for fires.
Pack an emergency bag. You are safer in the community centre, then your house, then in the car, and the least save is outside. In your house stay in the centre of your house until the fire pases over then go outside as your house takes much longer to burn that the bush outside. Bring garden hoses inside and then you can use them to put out the flames, keep checking the eves!
Remove firewood and bushes from close to your house- move it 50 metres down wind. Block the down pipes with tennis balls and a rag, and fill the gutters up with water. Store water inside, fill the sinks, tubs and baths.
Wear tight fitting thick clothes that are non flamable, eg a leather jacket, jeans and leather soled boots. No hairspray or jell!
You can't shelter in an above ground pool or water tank, the water may get too hot, in a below ground pool you need a large pot to hold over your head so you can breath the air inside it as the fire passes over. Many people die cos their lungs are seared. If caught in a car put a wet car blanket over your head, leave your hazzard lights on, sound the horn, park away from trees, and hope a fire truck doen't hit you, AND WISH YOU'D STAYED IN THE HOUSE!
Our thoughts are with you!
