Some experts fear the ball, travelling at thousands of kilometres an hour, could damage satellites or even the space station if it hits them.
Mr Day said Nasa had done intense research to ensure this would not happen.

I'm hoping it will take out some multi-billion dollar satellite, myself. Preferably one that carries FOX News.

To answer your unasked question: Stupid PR stunt which makes NASA look foolish.

Actually, I got to admit that probably the only I could ever get interested in playing golf is if I got to shoot a ball into space at thousands of miles an hour.

Now that would be fun. Sadly, though, Global CanWest's propaganda fluff most travels via cable ground link.

I wonder. With two fatal shuttle accidents in 20 years and an orbital telescope in act find the funds to fix, NASA doesn't seem to be looking much good at all.

Guess that's what happens when Republican Reich government cut its funds and staff to throw more money at the Pentagon/military industrial complex.

Of course, NASA bashing has been a favourite past time of the political right for years. In their case, they can see billions of dollars going to waste on space exploration that should be going Keynesian-militarism and tax breaks for those who don't need them.
