DirectTV Signs MLB Extra Innings

It appears that MLB (Major League Baseball) has signed an exclusive deal with DIRECTV!

"Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), who asked the Federal Communications Commission to look into the deal. "I am opposed to anything that deprives people of reasonable choices,"

I am of the view that sports, national passtimes and all, are Content. Content is purchasable by media outlets. Next thing you know, Kerry will want to mandate the Simpsons on every channel from 8-8:30 on Sunday, and not just Fox. Whats sad is that the major media distributors are in a hissy fit for this, but they wont carry HOCKEY! Crazy Talk I tell you!

Kerry
"In this day and age, consumers should have more choices -- not fewer. A Red Sox fan ought to be able to watch their team without having to switch to DirecTV."

When the Senators are in Edmonton, and its on Sportsnet3, forget it, I can cry and moan, I still am not gonna be able to watch the game. In this day and age, business is business. Which brings me to.....

With a nod to Stephen Colbert
Now on to todays WORD:

Piracy

As in Satellite Piracy...ummm...ok....thats a whole other thread!

As a Seattle Mariners fan in Vancouver, I don't feel alienated, except when the Blue Jays games run late on Sportsnet Pacific.

The Direct TV deal only affects fans who live outside their favourite team's markets, and it might be a good thing to cull a few Yankees and Red Sox fans from the overhyped herd.

FWIW, MLB also broadcasts their games on the internet, which is the better deal.

MLB is run by Republican Party stalwarts as a tool of propaganda and imperialist hegemony.

Which doesn't explain the World Baseball Classic they staged last year, where Mexican immigrants packed the stands, the U.S. team stumbled, and Cuba made it to the finals.

Compared to the NFL, baseball comes off like a Michael Moore movie.

MLB also uses satellites to spy on people's thoughts.
