Picket lines have been mounted outside Jobcentres and benefit offices as the biggest Civil Service strike for more than ten years takes place over pay and fresh fears about job cuts.

Up to 90,000 Jobcentre and benefit office workers at the Department for Work and Pensions in England, Wales and Scotland are taking part.

General secretary Mark Serwotka said workers' anger at low pay rates had been fuelled by "farcical" attempts by management to negotiate and reports of senior civil servants earning £300,000 after receiving new pay rises.
