The Raw Story:

quote:

John McCain's temper is well documented. He's called opponents and colleagues "shitheads," "assholes" and in at least one case "a fucking jerk."

But a new book on the presumptive Republican nominee will air perhaps the most shocking angry exchange to date.

The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter, which will arrive in bookstores next month, reports an angry exchange between McCain and his wife that happened in full view of aides and reporters during a 1992 campaign stop. An advance copy of the book was obtained by RAW STORY.

"Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c___*." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days."

*I couldn't bring myself to let the actual word appear on babble.

A great youtube clip on the subject

I think the thread title should, for purposes of accuracy, be changed from “John McCain's base: Misogynists with anger management issues” to “John McCain has misogynistic and has anger management issues” (or, if you prefer something stronger: “John McCain is a misogynist and has anger management issues”).

Well to be factual, he was elected to be the Republican candidate, and this suggests his base quite like him and his misogynist actions.

And they all have anger management issues as well.

And everyone who supports Jimmy Carter is a "born-again" religious freak.

I thought the standard slander of Jimmy Carter was that he "supports terrorists." I guess the slander it depends which side you're on in US politics.

Of course, It's Me D, the point I’m trying to make is that it is intellectual laziness to ascribe to a national politician’s supporters every personal characteristic of that politician.

Its a valid point I think. After all most of the Republican base considers McCain a "moderate"!

I'm going to plead not guilty there.

Yet, what does that have to do with individual voters having "anger management" issues, a personal characteristic of a national candidate?

Approximately...zero.

Okay, here's my reasoning behind the title: Whose support of McCain would not be shaken by something like this?

And why oh why is this thread about the choice of words in the title, and not about the implications of the OP?

That’s a legitimate question.

Because the title is so glaringly, and explicitly, inaccurate that it overwhelms the implied question you asked.

The title is partisan, but so what, so am I. I like it because it's provocative, witty, yet relavent to the topic, and draws attention to the thread. Thus a perfect title.

Give the guy a break, he's an economist. How often does he get to use titles like that?

I don't often get to agree with SG, so I'm going to seize the opportunity: It's a good point. (That's assuming people are aware of this, or similar, incidents.)

The exchange between McCain and his wife happened in 1992. If this is the best the left can get on McCain then we might be in a bit of trouble.

As far as I know, it's rather common for men to use misogynist terms like "bitch" and "c*nt" to the women in their lives, both to them directly and behind their backs when it's "just the boys". What's far less common is for these men is to have media around quoting conversations that they may not realize are being recorded.

I would say ditto to the swearing at people charge. It's less a sign of having anger management issues and more a sign of this is how he speaks to other men. Misogynist men with anger management issues, of whom there are legion, punch, kick and beat their female partners. Public verbal abuse is a sign of his level of comfortability of being disrespectful to her, and his recognition, however twisted, of the difference.
