Oh,I hope this is the right forum for this! For those of you under 26 and members of the NDP, you are part of the New Democratic Youth Of Canada, and eligible to participate in the upcoming NDYC convention. It is being held on Thursday, Janurary 23rd, from 4:30 pm till ??? at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, room number TBA. All the usuals will occur - resolutions, constitutional ammendments, reports from the outgoing executives, election of the incoming executive.
A bit on the elections - there are 13 positions that are being elected (the whole of executive). Gender parity (I believe at least 50% women) is enforced, and their is some level of provincial parity (no more than 3 residents of a single province can be elected). The positions available include:
- 2 Co-chairs (at least one must be a woman)
- POlicy coordinator
- Women's Liason
- LGB(T) Liason
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Outreach coordinator
- Communications director
- Participation of Visible Minorities liason
- Aborigional liason
- Francophone Coordinator
- Labour liason
Most positions are elected from the general assembly of NDYC delegates (if you are attending convention, you are automatically a delegate. If you are not, I am willing to look into delegate status at anyone's request), but Women's Liason, LGB(T) Liason, POVM Liason and Aboriginal Liason (possible Francophone coordinator as well) are all elected from the correspeonding youth caucus.
Please note, you do not have to attend convention to run for an executive position!! Send someone to talk you up, and a flyer if possible.
I currently sit on NDYC exec, so if anyone has any questions about the upcoming convention, or elections or anything, feel free to PM me. Or you can also go to the NDYC website at www.ndyc.ca, where you will find the contact information for all of the executive (note - the POVM has changed, so please do not email him. Again, I can pass along the new contact information to anyone who would like it).
And please pass this message along to everyone you know who may be interested. The word has not spread very far as of yet, and it needs to if we are to have a good convention. Thanks, and I hope to see many of you there!
