Beijing bans dog meat for summer Games

BEIJING - Beijing has asked hotels and restaurants in the city to take dog meat off the menu for the duration of next month's Olympics and September's Paralympics.

Dog is eaten not only by the large Korean community in China's capital but is also popular in Yunnan and Guizhou restaurants.

A directive from the Beijing Food Safety Office issued last month ordered Olympic contractor hotels not to provide any dishes made with dog meat and said any canine material used in traditional medicated diets must be clearly labelled.

Anyway, if people have a problem with the Chinese eating dog then don't go. They shouldn't feel oblicated to change their menu for temporary guest.

Has anybody ever had dog? I haven't, but I don't have any huge reservations about eating it if the opportunity were to present itself. So far in my life the 'exotic' meats I've consumed have been bison, aligator and caribou, admitedly animals that lack the charming personality of NA's favourite domestic animal. Caribou was very dry, didn't like it at all. Aligator was underwhelming, and bison tasted like beef.

I've had Tuna and shark caught the same day. I wasn't crazy about eating shark. And there I was, nose to nose with a six foot barracuda. I thought it was some benign looking Northern Pike when I first saw it. Carribbean dive guide said he was a bit worried for me at the time. Ya right. Bastard.
