Gender Inequality, Not Promiscuity, Main Factor in Sexual HealthDuring the rather lengthy dialogue in the Veil thread, there were some interesting posts regarding sexuality. This survey seems to have come at a rather opportune time as the tail end of that thread addressed many of the issues within this survey's finding. It looks like men in developed nations are (more likely to be) pigs (maybe Desmond Morris was correct in his observations, at least in developed nations) and our youth are not into screwing around like some may suggest. quote: Some of the survey's major findings:*While there is no major trend toward earlier sexual experience, a trend toward later marriage has led to an increase in premarital sex. *Married people have more sex than unmarried people do. *Sexual activity among single people is more common in industrialized countries than in developing countries. *First sexual experience is often forced or sold. *Monogamy is the dominant pattern in most parts of the world. Men report more multiple partnerships than do women. Such men are more likely to live in developed nations. *Marriage is no safeguard of sexual health. It is more difficult for married women to negotiate safe sex and condom use than it is for single women. *Among girls who marry at a very young age, "very early sexual experience within marriage can be coercive and traumatic." *Condom use is increasing, but condom-use rates remain low in many developing countries. *Public health measures to improve sexual health should focus not only on individual behaviours but also on broader issues such as gender, poverty, and mobility. *Public-health messages intended to reduce sexual risk-taking "should respect diversity and preserve choice." *School-based sexual education delays and does not hasten onset of sexual activity.
It looks like sex education is working. I suggest sex/health-ed be mandatory combined with the old pys-ed course as they might need to work off some of the hormones. We now need to strengthen educational efforts regarding women and homosexuality. The last note in this paragraph is one I would like to see strengthened exponentially. quote: The researchers call for providing sexual health services to unmarried young women, supplying condoms, decriminalizing commercial sex and homosexual sex, and prosecuting the perpetrators of sexual violence.

Hmmm...I admire oldgoat who never puts a foot wrong. I spose the least contentious course is to place my cloven hooves in his footsteps and laugh when he does but that does nothing to improve my appreciation of the nuances involved in sensitive issues that we tyro progressives continually fall afoul of.Rudimentary understanding of complex issues leads one to a "one size fits all" view of these issues based upon equality and universality.Nuances are confused with double standards. Perhaps one of the more nuance-enabled progressives can shed light on this. It is sexist and wrong for Peter MacKay to refer to Belinda Stronach as a dog because he is well off man with access to the levers of power and she is a billionaire woman with...access to the levers of power?? It is not sexist and wrong to insinuate that men are less than pigs because men have access to the levers of power and pigs do not?? What is the better method to address the inequities revealed in this World Sex Survey? Reducing gender inequities or increasing nuance awareness?

Although this is a different study, it shows some remarkable differences between the women, men and the way we are wired sexually and how much we communicate.Women talk three times as much as men, says study quote: Dr Brizendine, a self-proclaimed feminist, says the differences can be traced back to the womb, where the sex hormone testosterone moulds the developing male brain. __________________________________ And, if that wasn't enough, the simple act of talking triggers a flood of brain chemicals which give women a rush similar to that felt by heroin addicts when they get a high. __________________________________ "Women have an eight-lane superhighway for processing emotion, while men have a small country road," said Dr Brizendine, who runs a female "mood and hormone" clinic in San Francisco ___________________________________ "Or, to put it another way, men have an international airport for dealing with thoughts about sex, "where women have an airfield nearby that lands small and private planes"
