It sounds scary at first, but it's really happy news, as Romania's mainstream "right", the Truth and Justice coalition, consists of a social democratic party and a member of Liberal International (Some of its members aren't that great, but it's hard to argue against a civil libertarian organisation that has given awards to Aleksandr Dubcek, Mary Robinson, and Chen Shui-bian. Besides, my favourite Russian political party, Yabloko, is a member.), while the left consists of a party of Ceaucescu-era Stalinist officials (aka people who should be in jail for life for crime against humanity) and a new-agey "humanist" party that probably also houses such thugs. The left also tried exploiting anti-gay sentiment by criticising "right-wing" candidate Traian Baesescu's pro-gay comments on Romania's MTV.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_presidential_election%2C_2004 Sadly, unless the authoritarian left and the "right" work together in Parliament, the neo-Nazis will hold the balance of power in both of its houses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_legislative_election%2C_2004
