Toronto hosts world's first 'feminist porn' awards

quote:
"We wanted to celebrate filmmakers who are making really great porn, the kind that makes us feel good about sex, makes us feel good about our bodies and treats sex as something fun and good," she said.

Eleven awards will be handed out in three categories: porn flicks that depict "genuine female pleasure" or "women having a good time," films that were produced or directed by women, and adult movies that "expand the range of pleasure for women," Gallant said.

Oh wow. I misread that name at first and thought it was CHERYL Gallant extolling the virtues of feminist porn!

BTW, I wonder which hotel they're talkng about? The Drake? Or that other one nearby - I forget the name of it. Both are near me. I wonder why the writer of the article was so coy about it?

it's a shame that pornography depicting women enjoying themselves is limited to new-age thinking and 'queer' festivals.

Almost all pr0n depicts women 'enjoying themselves'; it's just in most of it, it's not very convincing.

I would say the issue with traditional porn isn't whether or not the women are portrayed as "enjoying themselves", but how they are treated.
Women aren't treated as equals in traditional porn (I know I'm not saying anything original here), they're not even treated as people -- they're treated like objects.
This is why traditional porn doesn't excite me -- at all.
