Sometime in the near future, the traditional Liberal and Conservative political parties of Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, have received a huge surprise from the voters - instead of the tweedledee-tweedledum game they've been playing with the voters forever, as they still do in mainland Canada and most western 'democracies', one fine day somewhere on the other side of the looking glass, at a time when both parties have gotten a little too arrogant and distant from the people, too much taking their rule of PEI for granted, they roll the dice one election day and they come up snake eyes as they both get turfed in favor of a group of Independents and a few NDPers.

This non-corporate coalition undertakes to fulfill their election promises (the first sign of a truly new way of doing things!) and turn PEI into a modern Green Island - a government actually of, by and for the people, rather than one dominated by corporate puppets and bankers.

The corporate rulers and bankers are not, predictably, happy with this turn of events, and decide to undertake a little regime change operation, with the help of the American government, well experienced in such things, and Canadian RCMP, corporate media and 'justice' system. But the regime changers get a bit of a surprise this time - an unexpected support for Green Island from the new Nordic Union, who decree that they will no longer accept the 'right' of the Americans to interfere with sovereign governments they don't like anywhere in the world, just because they can and they want to.

And then things get really interesting as, in an added twist, the 'Universal Incorporate' decides this would be a good time to put all of humanity on trial for their overall barbarism throughout their time of dominance on this planet, and their endless attacks on Truth and Beauty and Justice.

And then - well. You'll have to come to the Island to see how it all works out. It's a trip.

Author Dave Patterson is a Canadian writer, biologist, philosopher, teacher and visionary who has been fighting for social justice for over 40 years, and in Greenways (book I of the two volume Green Island duology) he produces his best work to date, a true rallying cry against the descent of our world into madness, despair and dystopia, with a vision of how it could, and should, be, if We the People can finally start working together to get rid of the cancer called capitalism that has invaded and taken over our body politic and threatens now to destroy us all, and our planet as well.

Once in a generation a book comes along that speaks for the hopes and dreams of that generation for their lives, for the future, that heralds a paradigm shift in the way people deal with each other, the way they understand their society and world. For the first decade of the 21st century, for the journey begun in the great awakening of the Hippies Generation of Dylan and the Beatles and the rest of that explosion of freedom called the 60s, that journey is finally coming home, the new day long awaited is dawning in the new world of Green Island.

Does everyone on this Green Island speak about themselves in the third person?
