Any Windows wizards hanging around? Here's the problem.

My wife has a 1996 version of Greetings Workshop which she uses regularly and absolutely loves. She has been running it on Windows XP. Two days ago it started popping up a message, "I am having trouble with a database." We have Googled around and find that this is a common problem with old programs. Most posts insist that MS does not support this program anymore and advise us to buy a new one. Unfortunately, new greetings programs don't open the *.gwp files and, thus, all the old projects would be lost.

We have tried un- & re-installing Greetings Workshop. We have also tried the XP compatibility utility. Neither works.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

1. Our preferred fix would be to fix XP so that Greetings Workshop would continue to run.

2. I have a spare harddrive which I could format and install Win 95. How do I set up a dualboot for two Windows: XP & 95?

3. Can we do a combination that uses the seperate harddrive with 95 but allows us to run Greetings Workshop from within XP?

Thanks.

4. Is it possible in XP to "encapsulate" a program in Win 95?

5. What other means are used to run old programs?

Does the error message report anything else besides having trouble with the database? Any numeric error codes?

Thanks for the suggestions, Makwa. Unfortunately, none of them work. We didn't try "Virtual PC" because this is XP, not Vista. As well, I'm not sure my wife could find her way around a virtual setup.

The only other message occurs at boot. It says that it cannot initialize gwutil.dll. I looked, it is very much where it should be but, for some reason, XP won't read it. Is there another place I could copy it to?

Anybody know their way around the "System Configuration Utility"?

(Linux is so much easier.)
