This horrible story of discrimination against Black farm workers worthy of the pre-civil-rights US South or apartheid South Africa had been airing on Radio-Canada and the CBC here, but I hadn't found anything in print to post here before. I know the Globe requires registration: I'll try to locate another source. racism against black farm workers

Having grown up in a super-multicultural suburb of Toronto I had the surprise of a lifetime when I moved out to Queen's U in Kingston, Ont.
After some negative experiences (a few with the local cops) I realized that maybe some Canadians are more much bigoted than I had once thought.
This Quebec story is insane! And I am still surprised.

I read this story yesterday and was horrified. I am glad the human rights commission was so forthcoming in the condemnation and punishment.

I was thinking of moving from the US to Canada (I am Black American) for more tolerance and fair treatment...Maybe I'll just stay put since it doesn't seem to matter where I go.

Unfortunatly Becca you may be correct ... in Canada there is still the problem with keeping blacks and aboriginals in "ghettos", we just seem to be less obvious about it.
Seems our multicultural template that allows many other races and cultures to successfully "cluster" together for purposes of supporting their community and blending in that culture to the Canadian mosiac, fails completely for blacks and aboriginals ... I'm not sure why this is so, but it may be that we "mainstream" Canadians made those two groups assimilate before realizing that there was a better way.

I think you may be right, No Yards. That's just too bad, because I love everyone. I don't care what they look like.
